Ephraim’s jealousy will end, ¹  and Judah’s hostility ²  will be eliminated. Ephraim will no longer be jealous of Judah, and Judah will no longer be hostile toward Ephraim.

Turning to me, the messenger then said, “Cry out that the Lord who rules over all says, ‘I am very much moved ¹  for Jerusalem and for Zion.

But again I ask, didn’t Israel understand? ¹  First Moses says, “I will make you jealous by those who are not a nation; with a senseless nation I will provoke you to anger.” ² 

I ask then, they did not stumble into an irrevocable fall, ¹  did they? Absolutely not! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make Israel ²  jealous.

if somehow I could provoke my people to jealousy and save some of them.

So Saul was keeping an eye on David from that day onward.

When Rachel saw that she could not give Jacob children, she ¹  became jealous of her sister. She said to Jacob, “Give me children ²  or I’ll die!”

He had ¹  so many sheep ²  and cattle ³  and such a great household of servants that the Philistines became jealous ⁴  of him.

They made him angry with their pagan shrines, ¹  and made him jealous with their idols.

Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious. Love does not brag, it is not puffed up.

I will punish you as an adulteress and murderer deserves. ¹  I will avenge your bloody deeds with furious rage. ² 

I will exhaust my rage on you, and then my fury will turn from you. I will calm down and no longer be angry.

Or do you think the scripture means nothing when it says, ¹  “The spirit that God ²  caused ³  to live within us has an envious yearning”? ⁴ 

So Saul feared David, because the Lord was with him but had departed from Saul.

For ¹  wrath kills the foolish person, ²  and anger ³  slays the silly one.

¹ His thunder announces the coming storm, the cattle also, concerning the storm’s approach.

Do not envy a violent man, ¹  and do not choose to imitate ²  any of his ways;

I will direct ¹  my jealous anger against you, and they will deal with you in rage. They will cut off your nose and your ears, ²  and your survivors will die ³  by the sword. They will seize your sons and daughters, and your survivors will be consumed by fire.
