Reach agreement ¹  quickly with your accuser while on the way to court, ²  or he ³  may hand you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the warden, and you will be thrown into prison.

If he comes by ¹  and confines ²  you ³  and convenes a court, ⁴  then who can prevent ⁵  him?

in order to protect him from times of trouble, ¹  until the wicked are destroyed. ² 

He brought them out of the utter darkness, ¹  and tore off their shackles.

But he refused. Instead, he went out and threw him in prison until he repaid the debt.

They wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowds, because the crowds ¹  regarded him as a prophet.

But Peter ¹  said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!” ² 

At daybreak ¹  there was great consternation ²  among the soldiers over what had become of Peter.

Receiving such orders, he threw them in the inner cell ¹  and fastened their feet in the stocks. ² 

Then he brought them outside ¹  and asked, “Sirs, what must ²  I do to be saved?”

except ¹  that the Holy Spirit warns ²  me in town after town ³  that ⁴  imprisonment ⁵  and persecutions ⁶  are waiting for me.

For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus ¹  for the sake of you Gentiles –

I, Paul, write this greeting by my own hand. ¹  Remember my chains. ²  Grace be with you. ³ 

I am appealing ¹  to you concerning my child, whose spiritual father I have become ²  during my imprisonment, ³  that is, Onesimus,

When they heard this, they entered the temple courts ¹  at daybreak and began teaching. ²  Now when the high priest and those who were with him arrived, they summoned the Sanhedrin ³  – that is, the whole high council ⁴  of the Israelites ⁵  – and sent to the jail to have the apostles ⁶  brought before them. ⁷ 

The warden put all the prisoners under Joseph’s care. He was in charge of whatever they were doing. ¹ 

So he asked Pharaoh’s officials, who were with him in custody in his master’s house, “Why do you look so sad today?” ¹ 

for I really was kidnapped ¹  from the land of the Hebrews and I have done nothing wrong here for which they should put me in a dungeon.”

Say, ‘This is what the king says, “Put this man in prison. Give him only a little bread and water ¹  until I safely return.”’” ² 

Do not drag me away with evil men, with those who behave wickedly, ¹  who talk so friendly to their neighbors, ²  while they plan to harm them! ³
