Just watch! The wrath of the Lord will come like a storm. Like a raging storm it will rage down on the heads of those who are wicked.

Now ¹  he was casting out a demon that was mute. ²  When ³  the demon had gone out, the man who had been mute began to speak, ⁴  and the crowds were amazed.

and that you may drive out all your enemies just as the Lord said.

Do not think to yourself after the Lord your God has driven them out before you, “Because of my own righteousness the Lord has brought me here to possess this land.” It is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out ahead of you.

Who is like your people, Israel, a unique nation ¹  on the earth? Their God ²  went ³  to claim ⁴  a nation for himself and to make a name for himself! You did great and awesome acts for your land, ⁵  before your people whom you delivered for yourself from the Egyptian empire and its gods. ⁶ 

He shot ¹  arrows and scattered them, ²  lightning and routed them. ³ 

“This is why ¹  my troubled thoughts bring me back ²  – because of my feelings ³  within me.

It claps ¹  its hands at him in derision and hisses him away from his place. ² 

I will hurry off to a place that is safe from the strong wind ¹  and the gale.”

He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore-fig trees with driving rain.

So ¹  they seized him, ²  threw him out of the vineyard, ³  and killed him.

and to have authority to cast out demons.

Then ¹  Jesus ²  entered the temple courts ³  and began to drive out those who were selling things there, ⁴ 

Look! You are driving me off the land ¹  today, and I must hide from your presence. ²  I will be a homeless wanderer on the earth; whoever finds me will kill me.”

“Obey ¹  what I am commanding you this day. I am going to drive out ²  before you the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

You must by all means destroy ¹  all the places where the nations you are about to dispossess worship their gods – on the high mountains and hills and under every leafy tree. ² 

Look, the sovereign master ¹  sends a strong, powerful one. ²  With the force of a hailstorm or a destructive windstorm, ³  with the might of a driving, torrential rainstorm, ⁴  he will knock that crown ⁵  to the ground with his hand. ⁶ 

But some itinerant ¹  Jewish exorcists tried to invoke the name ²  of the Lord Jesus over those who were possessed by ³  evil spirits, saying, “I sternly warn ⁴  you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.”

and the Horites in their hill country of Seir, as far as El Paran, which is near the desert. ¹ 

Whenever Israel was strong militarily, they forced the Canaanites to do hard labor, but they never totally conquered them.
