But you have been thrown out of your grave like a shoot that is thrown away. ¹  You lie among ²  the slain, among those who have been slashed by the sword, among those headed for ³  the stones of the pit, ⁴  as if you were a mangled corpse. ⁵ 

“Son of man, wail ¹  over the horde of Egypt. Bring it down; ²  bring ³  her ⁴  and the daughters of powerful nations down to the lower parts of the earth, along with those who descend to the pit.

Let the Christ, ¹  the king of Israel, come down from the cross now, that we may see and believe!” Those who were crucified with him also spoke abusively to him. ² 

I will make you ¹  extremely ²  fruitful. I will make nations of you, and kings will descend from you. ³ 

A flood will carry off his house, rushing waters on the day of God’s wrath.

He becomes the victim of his own destructive plans ¹  and the violence he intended for others falls on his own head. ² 

Enemies seek to destroy my life, ¹  but they will descend into the depths of the earth. ² 

He ¹  will descend like rain on the mown grass, ²  like showers that drench ³  the earth. ⁴ 

They treat me like ¹  those who descend into the grave. ²  I am like a helpless man, ³ 

as the mountains rose up, and the valleys went down – to the place you appointed for them. ¹ 

The dead do not praise the Lord, nor do any of those who descend into the silence of death. ¹ 

Then ¹  John testified, ²  “I saw the Spirit descending like a dove ³  from heaven, ⁴  and it remained on him. ⁵ 

The Lord spoke to Moses: “Go quickly, descend, ¹  because your ²  people, whom you brought up from the land of Egypt, have acted corruptly.

The foreigners ¹  who reside among you will become higher and higher over you and you will become lower and lower.

My teaching will drop like the rain, my sayings will drip like the dew, ¹  as rain drops upon the grass, and showers upon new growth.

‘Some of your very own descendants whom you father ¹  will be taken away and will be made eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’”

So Darius the king issued orders, and they searched in the archives ¹  of the treasury which were deposited there in Babylon.

Lord, in the morning ¹  you will hear ²  me; ³  in the morning I will present my case to you ⁴  and then wait expectantly for an answer. ⁵ 

You saturate ¹  its furrows, and soak ²  its plowed ground. ³  With rain showers you soften its soil, ⁴  and make its crops grow. ⁵ 

Indeed ¹  Sheol does not give you thanks; death does not ²  praise you. Those who descend into the pit do not anticipate your faithfulness.
