Later David defeated the Philistines and subdued them. David took Metheg Ammah ¹  from the Philistines. ² 

The Lord made his kingdom secure; ¹  all Judah brought tribute to Jehoshaphat, and he became very wealthy and greatly respected. ² 

Better to be slow to anger ¹  than to be a mighty warrior, and one who controls his temper ²  is better than ³  one who captures a city. ⁴ 

As we ran under the lee of ¹  a small island called Cauda, ²  we were able with difficulty to get the ship’s boat ³  under control.

We know that we are from God, ¹  and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

Who knows if he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet ¹  he will be master over all the fruit of ²  my labor ³  for which I worked so wisely ⁴  on earth! ⁵  This also is futile!

David defeated King Hadadezer son of Rehob of Zobah when he came to reestablish ¹  his authority ²  over the Euphrates ³  River.

He gathered some men and organized a raiding band. ¹  When David tried to kill them, ²  they went to Damascus, where they settled down and gained control of the city.

Later David defeated the Philistines and subdued them. He took Gath and its surrounding towns ¹  away from the Philistines. ² 

David defeated King Hadadezer of Zobah as far as Hamath, when he went to extend his authority ¹  to the Euphrates River. ² 

When he had secured control of the kingdom, ¹  he executed the servants who had assassinated his father. ² 

Since man’s days ¹  are determined, ²  the number of his months is under your control; ³  you have set his limit ⁴  and he cannot pass it.

Moreover, keep me from committing flagrant ¹  sins; do not allow such sins to control me. ²  Then I will be blameless, and innocent of blatant ³  rebellion.

Lord, we know that people do not control their own destiny. ¹  It is not in their power to determine what will happen to them. ² 

Instead I subdue my body and make it my slave, so that after preaching to others I myself will not be disqualified.

Likewise ¹  the women are to dress ²  in suitable apparel, with modesty and self-control. ³  Their adornment must not be ⁴  with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive clothing,

If someone thinks he is religious yet does not bridle his tongue, and so deceives his heart, his religion is futile.

For twelve years ¹  they had served Kedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year ²  they rebelled. ³ 

Ben-Hesed was in charge of Arubboth; he controlled Socoh and all the territory of Hepher.

They say, ¹  “Let’s tear off the shackles they’ve put on us! ²  Let’s free ourselves from ³  their ropes!”
