So when God destroyed ¹  the cities of the region, ²  God honored ³  Abraham’s request. He removed Lot ⁴  from the midst of the destruction when he destroyed ⁵  the cities Lot had lived in.

The two angels came to Sodom in the evening while ¹  Lot was sitting in the city’s gateway. ²  When Lot saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face toward the ground.

he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, ¹  to enter ²  the holy place ³  of the Lord and burn incense.

They also took Abram’s nephew ¹  Lot and his possessions when ²  they left, for Lot ³  was living in Sodom. ⁴ 

The first lot belonged to ¹  the Kohathite clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen cities from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.

The lot for the east gate went to Shelemiah. ¹  They then cast lots for his son Zechariah, a wise adviser, and the lot for the north gate went to him.

This is the account of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot.

So Abram went up from Egypt into the Negev. ¹  He took his wife and all his possessions with him, as well as Lot. ² 

Abram settled in the land of Canaan, but Lot settled among the cities of the Jordan plain ¹  and pitched his tents next to Sodom.

He retrieved all the stolen property. ¹  He also brought back his nephew Lot and his possessions, as well as the women and the rest of ²  the people.

Likewise, just as it was ¹  in the days of Lot, people ²  were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building;

Now this is what we will do to Gibeah: We will attack the city as the lot dictates. ¹ 

Join with us! ¹  We will all share ²  equally in what we steal.” ³ 

They were assigned to the Kohathite clans of the Levites who were descendants of Aaron, ¹  for the first lot belonged to them.

The first lot went to Asaph’s son Joseph and his relatives and sons – twelve in all, ¹  the second to Gedaliah and his relatives and sons – twelve in all,

Lord, you give me stability and prosperity; ¹  you make my future secure. ² 

The dice are thrown into the lap, ¹  but their every decision ²  is from the Lord. ³ 

Therefore no one will assign you land in the Lord’s community. ¹ 

Then ¹  they cast lots for them, and the one chosen was Matthias; ²  so he was counted with the eleven apostles. ³ 

The first lot belonged to the tribe of Benjamin ¹  by its clans. Their allotted territory was between Judah and Joseph. ²
