Meanwhile David had gone to Mahanaim, while Absalom and all the men of Israel had crossed the Jordan River.

The king had them cast in earth foundries ¹  in the region of the Jordan between Succoth and Zarethan.

“Leave here and travel eastward. Hide out in the Kerith Valley near the Jordan.

Why do you flee, O sea? Why do you turn back, O Jordan River?

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John to be baptized by him in the Jordan River. ¹ 

“Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way by the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles –

Now ¹  in those days Jesus came from Nazareth ²  in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan River. ³ 

He ¹  went into all the region around the Jordan River, ²  preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. ³ 

Then ¹  Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River ²  and was led by the Spirit ³  in ⁴  the wilderness, ⁵ 

Jesus ¹  went back across the Jordan River ²  again to the place where John ³  had been baptizing at an earlier time, ⁴  and he stayed there.

For we will not accept any inheritance on the other side of the Jordan River ¹  and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on this eastern side of the Jordan.”

So the king returned and came to the Jordan River. ¹  Now the people of Judah ²  had come to Gilgal to meet the king and to help him ³  cross the Jordan.

So David and all the people who were with him got up and crossed the Jordan River. ¹  By dawn there was not one person left who had not crossed the Jordan.

So it was in the Transjordan, in Moab, that Moses began to deliver these words: ¹ 

“Instruct the priests carrying the ark of the covenantal laws ¹  to come up from the Jordan.”

Then people from Jerusalem, ¹  as well as all Judea and all the region around the Jordan, were going out to him,

tell them how the water of the Jordan stopped flowing ¹  before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the water of the Jordan stopped flowing. ²  These stones will be a lasting memorial for the Israelites.”

We will cross armed in the Lord’s presence into the land of Canaan, and then the possession of our inheritance that we inherit will be ours on this side of the Jordan River.” ¹ 

Instruct the priests carrying the ark of the covenant, ‘When you reach the bank of the Jordan River, ¹  wade into the water.’” ²
