You have sent to John, ¹  and he has testified to the truth.

Peter looked directly ¹  at him (as did John) and said, “Look at us!”

He had James, the brother of John, executed with a sword. ¹ 

So Paul ¹  said, “Into what then were you baptized?” “Into John’s baptism,” they replied. ² 

Now ¹  John’s ²  disciples and the Pharisees ³  were fasting. ⁴  So ⁵  they came to Jesus ⁶  and said, “Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples don’t fast?”

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John to be baptized by him in the Jordan River. ¹ 

Now when John ¹  heard in prison about the deeds Christ ²  had done, he sent his disciples to ask a question: ³ 

Jesus answered them, ¹  “Go tell John what you hear and see: ² 

Instructed by her mother, she said, “Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.”

They answered, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, ¹  and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

In the wilderness ¹  John the baptizer ²  began preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. ³ 

Now ¹  in those days Jesus came from Nazareth ²  in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan River. ³ 

Now after John was imprisoned, ¹  Jesus went into Galilee and proclaimed the gospel ²  of God. ³ 

Now ¹  as soon as they left the synagogue, ²  they entered Simon and Andrew’s house, with James and John.

He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James, ¹  and John, the brother of James.

But when Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised!”

For John had repeatedly told ¹  Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” ² 

They said, ¹  “John the Baptist, others say Elijah, ²  and still others, one of the prophets.”

He took Peter, James, ¹  and John with him, and became very troubled and distressed.

He ¹  asked for a writing tablet ²  and wrote, ³  “His name is John.” And they were all amazed. ⁴
