I tell you, among those born of women no one is greater ¹  than John. ²  Yet the one who is least ³  in the kingdom of God ⁴  is greater than he is.”

The Israelites killed Balaam son of Beor, the omen reader, ¹  along with the others. ² 

When Elisha arrived at the house, there was ¹  the child lying dead on his bed.

He replied, “Don’t be afraid, for our side outnumbers them.” ¹ 

Elisha ¹  just stared at him until Hazael became uncomfortable. ²  Then the prophet started crying.

I did not send those prophets. Yet they were in a hurry to give their message. ¹  I did not tell them anything. Yet they prophesied anyway.

I sent all my servants the prophets to warn you over and over again. They said, “Every one of you, stop doing the evil things you have been doing and do what is right. ¹  Do not pay allegiance to other gods ²  and worship them. Then you can continue to live in this land that I gave to you and your ancestors.” But you did not pay any attention or listen to me.

“Son of man, turn toward ¹  the mountains of Israel and prophesy against them:

“Son of man, turn toward ¹  Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him and against all Egypt.

“Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: “‘Wail, “Alas, the day is here!” ¹ 

And all the prophets, from Samuel and those who followed him, have spoken about and announced ¹  these days.

Any man who prays or prophesies with his head covered disgraces his head.

Pursue love and be eager for the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.

The one who speaks in a tongue builds himself up, ¹  but the one who prophesies builds up the church.

When everyone who had known him previously saw him prophesying with the prophets, the people all asked one another, “What on earth has happened to the son of Kish? Does even Saul belong with the prophets?”

After he buried him, he said to his sons, “When I die, bury me in the tomb where the prophet ¹  is buried; put my bones right beside his bones,

So the prophet ¹  said to him, “Because you have disobeyed the Lord, as soon as you leave me a lion will kill you.” When he left him, a lion attacked and killed him.

The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, “There is still one man through whom we can seek the Lord’s will. ¹  But I despise ²  him because he does not prophesy prosperity for me, but disaster. His name is Micaiah son of Imlah. ³  Jehoshaphat said, “The king should not say such things.”

The Lord solemnly warned Israel and Judah through all his prophets and all the seers, “Turn back from your evil ways; obey my commandments and rules that are recorded in the law. I ordered your ancestors to keep this law and sent my servants the prophets to remind you of its demands.” ¹
