You must recognize the authority of the Lord who commands armies. ¹  He is the one you must respect; he is the one you must fear. ² 

This is what the sovereign master, the Lord who commands armies, says: “Go visit this administrator, Shebna, who supervises the palace, ¹  and tell him: ² 

They travel down to Egypt without seeking my will, ¹  seeking Pharaoh’s protection, and looking for safety in Egypt’s protective shade. ² 

Your claim to have a strategy and military strength is just empty talk. ¹  In whom are you trusting, that you would dare to rebel against me?

Furthermore it was by the command of the Lord that I marched up against this land to destroy it. The Lord told me, ‘March up against this land and destroy it!’”’” ¹ 

If anyone dares to ¹  challenge you, it will not be my doing! Whoever tries to challenge you will be defeated. ² 

The prophets will prove to be full of wind. ¹  The Lord has not spoken through them. ²  So, let what they say happen to them.’”

Now Pashhur son of Immer heard Jeremiah prophesy these things. He was the priest who was chief of security ¹  in the Lord’s temple.

“How great are his signs! How mighty are his wonders! His kingdom will last forever, ¹  and his authority continues from one generation to the next.”

Listen! The Lord is calling ¹  to the city! It is wise to respect your authority, O Lord! ²  Listen, O nation, and those assembled in the city! ³ 

And so they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own house.”

Now the ones who had arrested Jesus led him to Caiaphas, the high priest, in whose house ¹  the experts in the law ²  and the elders had gathered.

When ¹  it was early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people plotted against Jesus to execute him.

Now when ¹  Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus ²  had been condemned, he regretted what he had done and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders,

Thus you nullify ¹  the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like this.”

They came again to Jerusalem. ¹  While Jesus ²  was walking in the temple courts, ³  the chief priests, the experts in the law, ⁴  and the elders came up to him

Then ¹  they led Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests and elders and experts in the law ²  came together.

But to all who have received him – those who believe in his name ¹  – he has given the right to become God’s children

(Now he did not say this on his own, ¹  but because he was high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the Jewish nation, ² 

Because Jesus ¹  knew that the Father had handed all things over to him, ²  and that he had come from God and was going back to God,
