Don’t let the current overpower me! Don’t let the deep swallow me up! Don’t let the pit ¹  devour me! ² 

He will shelter you ¹  with his wings; ²  you will find safety under his wings. His faithfulness is like a shield or a protective wall. ³ 

He covers ¹  the sky with clouds, provides the earth with rain, and causes grass to grow on the hillsides. ² 

Its posts were made ¹  of silver; ²  its back ³  was made of gold. Its seat was upholstered with purple wool; ⁴  its interior was inlaid ⁵  with leather ⁶  by the maidens ⁷  of Jerusalem.

Your splendor ¹  has been brought down to Sheol, as well as the sound of your stringed instruments. ²  You lie on a bed of maggots, with a blanket of worms over you. ³ 

On this mountain he will swallow up the shroud that is over all the peoples, ¹  the woven covering that is over all the nations; ² 

For the fortified city ¹  is left alone; it is a deserted settlement and abandoned like the desert. Calves ²  graze there; they lie down there and eat its branches bare. ³ 

For the bed is too short to stretch out on, and the blanket is too narrow to wrap around oneself. ¹ 

I will threaten Ariel, and she will mourn intensely and become like an altar hearth ¹  before me.

You will be shocked and amazed! ¹  You are totally blind! ²  They are drunk, ³  but not because of wine; they stagger, ⁴  but not because of beer.

Wild oxen will be slaughtered ¹  along with them, as well as strong bulls. ²  Their land is drenched with blood, their soil is covered with fat.

Edom’s ¹  streams will be turned into pitch and her soil into brimstone; her land will become burning pitch.

For all of them will shave their heads in mourning. They will all cut off their beards to show their sorrow. They will all make gashes in their hands. They will all put on sackcloth. ¹ 

Their rims were high and awesome, ¹  and the rims of all four wheels were full of eyes all around.

He unrolled it before me, and it had writing on the front ¹  and back; ²  written on it were laments, mourning, and woe.

They will wear sackcloth, terror will cover them; shame will be on all their faces, and all of their heads will be shaved bald. ¹ 

along with their entire bodies, ¹  their backs, their hands, and their wings. The wheels of the four of them were full of eyes all around.

When the wall has collapsed, people will ask you, “Where is the whitewash you coated it with?”

He made me walk all around among them. ¹  I realized ²  there were a great many bones in the valley and they were very dry.

I will no longer hide my face from them, when I pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel, ¹  declares the sovereign Lord.”
