“Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and his hordes: “‘Who are you like in your greatness?

As for the rest of the beasts, their ruling authority had already been removed, though they were permitted to go on living ¹  for a time and a season.

“Yet even now,” the Lord says, “return to me with all your heart – with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Tear your hearts, ¹  not just your garments!”

Therefore they will now be the first to go into exile, ¹  and the religious banquets ²  where they sprawl on couches ³  will end.

Look, the one whose desires are not upright will faint from exhaustion, ¹  but the person of integrity ²  will live ³  because of his faithfulness. ⁴ 

I will leave in your midst a humble and meek group of people, ¹  and they will find safety in the Lord’s presence. ² 

“Do ¹  not be afraid of them, for nothing is hidden ²  that will not be revealed, ³  and nothing is secret that will not be made known.

Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. ¹  The one who has ears had better listen! ² 

After ¹  a little while, those standing there came up to Peter and said, “You really are one of them too – even your accent ²  gives you away!”

He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions were hungry –

Now when the centurion, ¹  who stood in front of him, saw how he died, ²  he said, “Truly this man was God’s Son!”

Pilate was surprised that he was already dead. He ¹  called the centurion and asked him if he had been dead for some time.

but one thing ¹  is needed. Mary has chosen the best ²  part; it will not be taken away from her.”

Another ¹  said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, ²  and I am going out ³  to examine them. Please excuse me.’

It is of no value ¹  for the soil or for the manure pile; it is to be thrown out. ²  The one who has ears to hear had better listen!” ³ 

I tell you, he will give them justice speedily. ¹  Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith ²  on earth?”

And after about an hour still another insisted, ¹  “Certainly this man was with him, because he too is a Galilean.” ² 

This is the one about whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is greater than I am, ¹  because he existed before me.’

When Jesus saw him lying there and when he realized ¹  that the man ²  had been disabled a long time already, he said to him, “Do you want to become well?”

Jesus replied, ¹  “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin, ²  but now because you claim that you can see, ³  your guilt ⁴  remains.” ⁵
