Their slander will bring about their demise. ¹  All who see them will shudder, ² 

My accusers will be covered ¹  with shame, and draped in humiliation as if it were a robe.

I will thank the Lord profusely, ¹  in the middle of a crowd ²  I will praise him,

The one who keeps the law ¹  is a discerning child, ²  but a companion of gluttons brings shame ³  to his parents. ⁴ 

Then some of the elders of Judah ¹  stepped forward and spoke to all the people gathered there. They said,

When ¹  Jesus finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed by his teaching,

he said, “Go away, for the girl is not dead but asleep.” And they began making fun of him. ¹ 

All the crowds were amazed and said, “Could this one be the Son of David?”

Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the crowds; he did not speak to them without a parable.

They wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowds, because the crowds ¹  regarded him as a prophet.

He asked, “Why? What wrong has he done?” But they shouted more insistently, “Crucify him!”

In ¹  reply all the people said, “Let his blood be on us and on our children!”

He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James, ¹  and John, the brother of James.

Everyone ¹  ate and was satisfied, and they picked up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full.

Pilate asked them, “Why? What has he done wrong?” But they shouted more insistently, “Crucify him!”

But some of them said, “By the power of Beelzebul, ¹  the ruler ²  of demons, he casts out demons.”

But they were insistent, ¹  demanding with loud shouts that he be crucified. And their shouts prevailed.

John answered them, ¹  “I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not recognize, ² 

So Jesus replied, ¹  “My time ²  has not yet arrived, ³  but you are ready at any opportunity! ⁴ 

Even by saying ¹  these things, they scarcely persuaded ²  the crowds not to offer sacrifice to them.
