Jeroboam ruled for twenty-two years; then he passed away. ¹  His son Nadab replaced him as king.

Jehu passed away ¹  and was buried in Samaria. ²  His son Jehoahaz replaced him as king.

Hezekiah passed away ¹  and his son Manasseh replaced him as king.

Your ¹  sons will carry ²  on the dynasty of your ancestors; ³  you will make them princes throughout the land.

But he will join his ancestors; ¹  they will never again see the light of day. ² 

They were unfaithful ¹  and acted as treacherously as ²  their ancestors; they were as unreliable as a malfunctioning bow. ³ 

“But they refused to pay attention, turning away stubbornly and stopping their ears so they could not hear.

So when Jacob heard that there was grain ¹  in Egypt, he sent our ancestors ²  there ³  the first time.

When Jacob entered Egypt, your ancestors cried out to the Lord. The Lord sent Moses and Aaron, and they led your ancestors out of Egypt and settled them in this place.

while he went a day’s journey into the desert. He went and sat down under a shrub ¹  and asked the Lord to take his life: ²  “I’ve had enough! Now, O Lord, take my life. After all, I’m no better than my ancestors.” ³ 

The blessings of your father are greater than ¹  the blessings of the eternal mountains ²  or the desirable things of the age-old hills. They will be on the head of Joseph and on the brow of the prince of his brothers. ³ 

they will by no means ¹  see the land that I swore to their fathers, nor will any of them who despised me see it.

“Aaron will be gathered to his ancestors, ¹  for he will not enter into the land I have given to the Israelites because both of you ²  rebelled against my word ³  at the waters of Meribah.

Look, he ¹  has placed the land in front of you! ²  Go up, take possession of it, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, said to do. Do not be afraid or discouraged!”

These are the statutes and ordinances you must be careful to obey as long as you live in the land the Lord, the God of your ancestors, ¹  has given you to possess. ² 

You must not encroach on your neighbor’s property, ¹  which will have been defined ²  in the inheritance you will obtain in the land the Lord your God is giving you. ³ 

So we cried out to the Lord, the God of our ancestors, and he ¹  heard us and saw our humiliation, toil, and oppression.

The Lord will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known, gods of wood and stone.

The Lord was furious with Israel. ¹  He said, “This nation ²  has violated the terms of the agreement I made with their ancestors ³  by disobeying me. ⁴ 

They were left to test Israel, so the Lord would know if his people would obey the commands he gave their ancestors through Moses. ¹
