Do not lie in wait like the wicked ¹  against the place where the righteous live; do not assault ²  his home.

It is the glory of God ¹  to conceal ²  a matter, and it is the glory of a king to search out a matter.

Where there is no wood, a fire goes out, and where there is no gossip, ¹  contention ceases. ² 

Though his ¹  hatred may be concealed ²  by deceit, his evil will be uncovered ³  in the assembly.

The one who covers ¹  his transgressions will not prosper, ²  but whoever confesses them and forsakes them will find mercy. ³ 

The Lover to His Beloved: You are a locked garden, ¹  my sister, my bride; you are an enclosed spring, a sealed-up fountain.

the mighty men and warriors, judges and prophets, omen readers and leaders, ¹ 

captains of groups of fifty, the respected citizens, ¹  advisers and those skilled in magical arts, ²  and those who know incantations.

headdresses, ankle ornaments, sashes, sachets, ¹  amulets,

O Lord, in distress they looked for you; they uttered incantations because of your discipline. ¹ 

But approach, you sons of omen readers, you offspring of adulteresses and prostitutes! ¹ 

For there will no longer be any false visions or flattering omens amidst the house of Israel.

I will remove the sorcery ¹  that you practice, ²  and you will no longer have omen readers living among you. ³ 

You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden.

Then they secretly instigated ¹  some men to say, “We have heard this man ²  speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

saying, “Give me this power ¹  too, so that everyone I place my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.”

This mystery is great – but I am actually ¹  speaking with reference to Christ and the church.

Similarly good works are also obvious, and the ones that are not cannot remain hidden.

Finally he told her his secret. ¹  He said to her, “My hair has never been cut, ²  for I have been dedicated to God ³  from the time I was conceived. ⁴  If my head ⁵  were shaved, my strength would leave me; I would become weak, and be just like all other men.”

After this, Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple of Jesus (but secretly, because he feared the Jewish leaders ¹ ), ²  asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus. Pilate ³  gave him permission, so he went and took the body away. ⁴
