He ¹  said, “When evening comes you say, ‘It will be fair weather, because the sky is red,’

and in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, because the sky is red and darkening.’ ¹  You know how to judge correctly the appearance of the sky, ²  but you cannot evaluate the signs of the times.

Like one who takes off a garment on a cold day, ¹  or like vinegar poured on soda, ²  so is one who sings songs to a heavy heart. ³ 

When they are scorched, ¹  they dry up, when it is hot, they vanish ²  from their place.

They are soaked by mountain rains and huddle ¹  in the rocks because they lack shelter.

when the waters become hard ¹  like stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen solid?

Who has put wisdom in the heart, ¹  or has imparted understanding to the mind?

For she leaves ¹  her eggs on the ground, and lets them be warmed on the soil.

each one is so close to the next ¹  that no air can come between them.

I will hurry off to a place that is safe from the strong wind ¹  and the gale.”

A friend ¹  loves at all times, and a relative ²  is born to help in adversity. ³
