For the waywardness ¹  of the simpletons will kill ²  them, and the careless ease ³  of fools will destroy them.

“I will heal their waywardness ¹  and love them freely, ²  for my anger will turn ³  away from them.

(She is loud and rebellious, she ¹  does not remain ²  at home –

Come back to me, you wayward people. I want to cure your waywardness. ¹  Say, ²  ‘Here we are. We come to you because you are the Lord our God.

whose paths ¹  are morally crooked, ²  and who are devious ³  in their ways;

He is able to deal compassionately with those who are ignorant and erring, since he also is subject to weakness,

A worthless and wicked person ¹  walks around saying perverse ²  things; ³ 

by keeping ¹  you from the evil woman, ²  from the smooth tongue of ³  the loose woman. ⁴ 

for a prostitute is like ¹  a deep pit; a harlot ²  is like ³  a narrow well. ⁴ 

The wicked turn aside from birth; ¹  liars go astray as soon as they are born. ² 

to deliver you ¹  from the adulteress, ²  from the sexually loose woman ³  who speaks flattering ⁴  words; ⁵ 

so that they may keep you ¹  from the adulterous ²  woman, from the loose woman ³  who flatters you ⁴  with her words. ⁵ 

Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways – do not wander into her pathways;

The one who has a perverse heart ¹  does not find good, ²  and the one who is deceitful in speech ³  falls into trouble.

Those who stray morally will gain understanding; ¹  those who complain will acquire insight. ² 

Then the Lord said to me, “Under the circumstances, wayward Israel could even be considered less guilty than unfaithful Judah. ¹ 

“Come back to me, my wayward sons,” says the Lord, “for I am your true master. ¹  If you do, ²  I will take one of you from each town and two of you from each family group, and I will bring you back to Zion.

Take a man’s ¹  garment ²  when he has given security for a stranger, ³  and when he gives surety for strangers, ⁴  hold him ⁵  in pledge.
