So the warden removed the delicacies and the wine ¹  from their diet ²  and gave them a diet of vegetables instead.

They ate all the vegetation in their land, and devoured the crops of their fields. ¹ 

“Please test your servants for ten days by providing us with some vegetables to eat and water to drink.

One person believes in eating everything, but the weak person eats only vegetables.

For the land where you are headed ¹  is not like the land of Egypt from which you came, a land where you planted seed and which you irrigated by hand ²  like a vegetable garden.

Better a meal of vegetables where there is love ¹  than a fattened ox where there is hatred. ²

So he overthrew those cities and all that region, ¹  including all the inhabitants of the cities and the vegetation that grew ²  from the ground.

He provides grass ¹  for the cattle, and crops for people to cultivate, ²  so they can produce food from the ground, ³ 

Ask the Lord for rain in the season of the late spring rains ¹  – the Lord who causes thunderstorms – and he will give everyone showers of rain and green growth in the field.

For the ground that has soaked up the rain that frequently falls on ¹  it and yields useful vegetation for those who tend it receives a blessing from God.

So the warden ¹  agreed to their proposal ²  and tested them for ten ³  days.

You may eat any moving thing that lives. ¹  As I gave you ²  the green plants, I now give ³  you everything.

I will prepare for them a healthy ¹  planting. They will no longer be victims ²  of famine in the land and will no longer bear the insults of the nations.
