A rod and reproof ¹  impart ²  wisdom, but a child who is unrestrained ³  brings shame ⁴  to his mother. ⁵ 

For we hear that some among you are living an undisciplined life, ¹  not doing their own work but meddling in the work of others. ² 

He will die because ¹  there was no discipline; because of the greatness of his folly ²  he will reel. ³ 

The woman called Folly ¹  is brash, ²  she is naive ³  and does not know ⁴  anything. ⁵ 

The one who refuses correction despises himself, ¹  but whoever hears ²  reproof acquires understanding. ³ 

But no human being can subdue the tongue; it is a restless ¹  evil, full of deadly poison.

The Lord says, “The women ¹  of Zion are proud. They walk with their heads high ²  and flirt with their eyes. They skip along ³  and the jewelry on their ankles jingles. ⁴ 

After ¹  a few days, ²  the younger son gathered together all he had and left on a journey to a distant country, and there he squandered ³  his wealth ⁴  with a wild lifestyle.

And we urge you, brothers and sisters, ¹  admonish the undisciplined, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient toward all.

For you know yourselves how you must imitate us, because we did not behave without discipline ¹  among you,

But we command you, brothers and sisters, ¹  in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother who lives an undisciplined ²  life ³  and not according to the tradition they ⁴  received from us.
