How long will you threaten ¹  a man? All of you are murderers, ²  as dangerous as a leaning wall or an unstable fence. ³ 

Nations are in uproar, kingdoms are overthrown. ¹  God ²  gives a shout, ³  the earth dissolves. ⁴ 

You made the earth quake; you split it open. ¹  Repair its breaches, for it is ready to fall. ² 

When the earth and all its inhabitants dissolve in fear, ¹  I make its pillars secure.” ²  (Selah)

He decorates it with overlays of silver and gold. He uses hammer and nails to fasten it ¹  together so that it will not fall over.

To make a contribution one selects wood that will not rot; ¹  he then seeks a skilled craftsman to make ²  an idol that will not fall over.

Strengthen the hands that have gone limp, steady the knees that shake! ¹ 

Do not strike them dead suddenly, because then my people might forget the lesson. ¹  Use your power to make them homeless vagabonds and then bring them down, O Lord who shields us! ² 

The earth will stagger around ¹  like a drunk; it will sway back and forth like a hut in a windstorm. ²  Its sin will weigh it down, and it will fall and never get up again.

Your words have supported ¹  those who stumbled, ²  and you have strengthened the knees that gave way. ³ 

He established the earth on its foundations; it will never be upended.

I am so starved my knees shake; ¹  I have turned into skin and bones. ² 

Deliver those being taken away to death, and hold back those slipping to the slaughter. ¹ 

Therefore, strengthen ¹  your listless hands and your weak knees, ² 

Even these men ¹  stagger because of wine, they stumble around because of beer – priests and prophets stagger because of beer, they are confused ²  because of wine, they stumble around because of beer; they stagger while seeing prophetic visions, ³  they totter while making legal decisions. ⁴ 

The craftsman encourages the metalsmith, the one who wields the hammer encourages ¹  the one who pounds on the anvil. He approves the quality of the welding, ²  and nails it down so it won’t fall over.”

Here is a message about Egypt: Look, the Lord rides on a swift-moving cloud and approaches Egypt. The idols of Egypt tremble before him; the Egyptians lose their courage. ¹ 

You will stumble and fall, you proud city; no one will help you get up. I will set fire to your towns; it will burn up everything that surrounds you.” ¹ 

The arrogance of Israel testifies against it; Israel and Ephraim will be overthrown ¹  because ²  of their iniquity. Even Judah will be brought down ³  with them.

People will be fainting from fear ¹  and from the expectation of what is coming on the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. ²
