Samson went and captured three hundred jackals ¹  and got some torches. He tied the jackals in pairs by their tails and then tied a torch to each pair. ² 

They have ¹  tails and stingers like scorpions, and their ability ²  to injure people for five months is in their tails.

For the power ¹  of the horses resides ²  in their mouths and in their tails, because their tails are like snakes, having heads that inflict injuries.

They will lend to you but you will not lend to them; they will become the head and you will become the tail!

It makes its tail stiff ¹  like a cedar, the sinews of its thighs are tightly wound.

So the Lord cut off Israel’s head and tail, both the shoots and stalk ¹  in one day.

The leaders and the highly respected people ¹  are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail.

Then the one making the offering ¹  must present all its fat: the fatty tail, the fat covering the entrails,

Egypt will not be able to do a thing, head or tail, shoots and stalk. ¹ 

Then he took the fat (the fatty tail, ¹  all the fat on the entrails, the protruding lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and their fat ² ) and the right thigh, ³ 

As for the fat parts from the ox and from the ram ¹  (the fatty tail, the fat covering the entrails, ²  the kidneys, and the protruding lobe of the liver),

But the Lord said to Moses, “Put out your hand and grab it by the tail” – so he put out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand ¹  –

The Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always end up at the top and not at the bottom, if you obey his ¹  commandments which I am urging ²  you today to be careful to do.

Now ¹  the dragon’s ²  tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and hurled them to the earth. Then ³  the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child as soon as it was born.

“You are to take from the ram the fat, the fat tail, the fat that covers the entrails, the lobe ¹  of the liver, the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and the right thigh – for it is the ram for consecration ²  –

Then he must present a gift to the Lord from the peace offering sacrifice: He must remove all the fatty tail up to the end of the spine, the fat covering the entrails, and all the fat on the entrails, ¹ 

When it rises up, the mighty are terrified, at its thrashing about they withdraw. ¹ 

When my enemies turn back, they trip and are defeated ¹  before you.

May their path be ¹  dark and slippery, as the Lord’s angel chases them!

That day the people stole away to go to the city the way people who are embarrassed steal away in fleeing from battle.
