Now the soldiers’ plan was to kill the prisoners ¹  so that none of them would escape by swimming away. ² 

Again he measured 1,750 feet and it was a river I could not cross, for the water had risen; it was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be crossed.

But the centurion, ¹  wanting to save Paul’s life, ²  prevented them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land, ³ 

Moab ¹  will spread out its hands in the middle of it, ²  just as a swimmer spreads his hands to swim; the Lord ³  will bring down Moab’s ⁴  pride as it spreads its hands. ⁵ 

the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea and everything that moves through the currents ¹  of the seas.

Let the heavens and the earth praise him, along with the seas and everything that swims in them!

I am exhausted as I groan; all night long I drench my bed in tears; ¹  my tears saturate the cushion beneath me. ² 

You made people like fish in the sea, like animals in the sea ¹  that have no ruler.

Any creature in the water that does not have both fins and scales is detestable to you.

These you may eat from among water creatures: anything with fins and scales you may eat,

but whatever does not have fins and scales you may not eat; it is ritually impure to you.

Over here is the deep, wide sea, ¹  which teems with innumerable swimming creatures, ²  living things both small and large.

The ships travel there, and over here swims the whale ¹  you made to play in it.

They will descend from their ships – all who handle the oar, the sailors and all the sea captains – they will stand on the land.

I will drench the land with the flow of your blood up to the mountains, and the ravines will be full of your blood. ¹ 

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image ¹  or any likeness ²  of anything ³  that is in heaven above or that is on the earth beneath or that is in the water below. ⁴ 

“‘These you can eat from all creatures that are in the water: Any creatures in the water that have both fins and scales, ¹  whether in the seas or in the streams, ²  you may eat.

You must not make for yourself an image ¹  of anything in heaven above, on earth below, or in the waters beneath. ² 

The prophet ¹  asked, “Where did it drop in?” When he showed him the spot, Elisha ²  cut off a branch, threw it in at that spot, and made the ax head float.

Then ¹  they went out and ran from the tomb, for terror and bewilderment had seized them. ²  And they said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.
