The Lord regretted ¹  that he had made humankind on the earth, and he was highly offended. ² 

Yes, ¹  I confess my wrongdoing, and I am concerned about my sins.

Although it grieved the king deeply, ¹  he did not want to reject her request because of his oath and his guests.

For even if I made you sad ¹  by my letter, ²  I do not regret having written it ³  (even though I did regret it, ⁴  for ⁵  I see that my letter made you sad, ⁶  though only for a short time).

Although it grieved the king, ¹  because of his oath and the dinner guests he commanded it to be given.

So the Lord said, “I will wipe humankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth – everything from humankind to animals, ¹  including creatures that move on the ground and birds of the air, for I regret that I have made them.”

These double disasters confronted you. But who feels sorry for you? Destruction and devastation, famine and sword. But who consoles you? ¹ 

Now I rejoice, not because you were made sad, ¹  but because you were made sad to the point of repentance. For you were made sad as God intended, ²  so that you were not harmed ³  in any way by us.

The people regretted what had happened to ¹  Benjamin because the Lord had weakened ²  the Israelite tribes.

For all of you have conspired against me! No one informs me ¹  when my own son makes an agreement with this son of Jesse! Not one of you feels sorry for me or informs me that my own son has commissioned my own servant to hide in ambush against me, as is the case today!”

For if I make you sad, who would be left to make me glad ¹  but the one I caused to be sad?

But the person who endures to the end will be saved. ¹ 

Until the day he ¹  died Samuel did not see Saul again. Samuel did, however, mourn for Saul, but the Lord regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel.

Therefore I despise myself, ¹  and I repent in dust and ashes!

By your endurance ¹  you will gain ²  your lives. ³ 

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

If someone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.

You must not pity him, but purge out the blood of the innocent ¹  from Israel, so that it may go well with you.

The Israelites regretted what had happened to ¹  their brother Benjamin. They said, “Today we cut off an entire ²  tribe from Israel!

The Lord cried out, ¹  “Who in the world ²  will have pity on you, Jerusalem? Who will grieve over you? Who will stop long enough ³  to inquire about how you are doing? ⁴
