All who see me taunt ¹  me; they mock me ²  and shake their heads. ³ 

The Pharisees ¹  (who loved money) heard all this and ridiculed ²  him.

The people also stood there watching, but the rulers ridiculed ¹  him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save ²  himself if ³  he is the Christ ⁴  of God, his chosen one!”

He is secure at all times. ¹  He has no regard for your commands; ²  he disdains all his enemies. ³ 

But others jeered at the speakers, ¹  saying, “They are drunk on new wine!” ² 

When the Philistine looked carefully at David, he despised him, for he was only a ruddy and handsome boy.

At whom are you laughing? At whom are you opening your mouth and sticking out your tongue? You are the children of rebels, the offspring of liars, ¹ 

Now when they heard about ¹  the resurrection from the dead, some began to scoff, ²  but others said, “We will hear you again about this.”

But these men do not understand the things they slander, and they are being destroyed by the very things that, like irrational animals, they instinctively comprehend. ¹ 

Look, they hurl insults at me and openly threaten to kill me, ¹  for they say, ²  “Who hears?”

They ¹  heaped insults ²  on him, saying, ³  “You are his disciple! ⁴  We are disciples of Moses!

For every creation of God is good and no food ¹  is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.

But Nabal responded to David’s servants, “Who is David, and who is this son of Jesse? This is a time when many servants are breaking away from their masters!

Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?” Before our very eyes may the shed blood of your servants be avenged among the nations! ¹ 

The people will treat each other harshly; men will oppose each other; neighbors will fight. ¹  Youths will proudly defy the elderly and riffraff will challenge those who were once respected. ² 

Why ¹  do you see the speck ²  in your brother’s eye, but fail to see ³  the beam of wood ⁴  in your own?

You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Do not be deceived. God will not be made a fool. ¹  For a person ²  will reap what he sows,

“You have surely noticed what these people are saying, haven’t you? They are saying, ¹  ‘The Lord has rejected the two families of Israel and Judah ²  that he chose.’ So they have little regard that my people will ever again be a nation. ³
