Now Mount Sinai was completely covered with smoke because the Lord had descended on it in fire, and its smoke went up like the smoke of a great furnace, ¹  and the whole mountain shook ²  violently.

He ¹  opened the shaft of the abyss and smoke rose out of it ²  like smoke from a giant furnace. The ³  sun and the air were darkened with smoke from the shaft.

I will produce portents both in the sky ¹  and on the earth – blood, fire, and columns of smoke.

He looked out toward ¹  Sodom and Gomorrah and all the land of that region. ²  As he did so, he saw the smoke rising up from the land like smoke from a furnace. ³ 

But when the signal, a pillar of smoke, began to rise up from the city, the Benjaminites turned around and saw the whole city going up in a cloud of smoke that rose high into the sky. ¹ 

He looks down on the earth and it shakes; he touches the mountains and they start to smolder.

Smoke streams from its nostrils as from a boiling pot over burning ¹  rushes.

For my days go up in smoke, ¹  and my bones are charred like a fireplace. ² 

For ¹  I am like a wineskin ²  dried up in smoke. ³  I do not forget your statutes.

Like vinegar to the teeth and like smoke to the eyes, ¹  so is the sluggard to those ²  who send him.

The sound of their voices shook the door frames, ¹  and the temple was filled with smoke.

The ¹  smoke coming from the incense, ²  along with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand.

Then ¹  out of the smoke came locusts onto the earth, and they were given power ²  like that of the scorpions of the earth.

and began to shout ¹  when they saw the smoke from the fire that burned her up, ²  “Who is like the great city?”

Then ¹  a second time the crowd shouted, “Hallelujah!” The smoke rises from her forever and ever. ² 

And I will perform wonders in the sky ¹  above and miraculous signs ²  on the earth below, blood and fire and clouds of smoke.

O Lord, make the sky sink ¹  and come down! ²  Touch the mountains and make them smolder! ³ 

But ¹  evil men will die; the Lord’s enemies will be incinerated ²  – they will go up in smoke. ³ 

When the sun had gone down and it was dark, a smoking firepot with a flaming torch ¹  passed between the animal parts. ² 

All the people were seeing ¹  the thundering and the lightning, and heard ²  the sound of the horn, and saw ³  the mountain smoking – and when ⁴  the people saw it they trembled with fear ⁵  and kept their distance. ⁶
