The king of Israel went home to Samaria ¹  bitter and angry.

For ¹  wrath kills the foolish person, ²  and anger ³  slays the silly one.

It is not rude, it is not self-serving, it is not easily angered or resentful.

The godless at heart ¹  nourish anger, ²  they do not cry out even when he binds them.

My child, do not despise discipline from the Lord, ¹  and do not loathe ²  his rebuke.

Do not envy a violent man, ¹  and do not choose to imitate ²  any of his ways;

Blessed is anyone ¹  who takes no offense at me.”

Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them.

In the camp they resented ¹  Moses, and Aaron, the Lord’s holy priest. ² 

The scorner does not love ¹  one who corrects him; ²  he will not go to ³  the wise.

A person’s folly ¹  subverts ²  his way, and ³  his heart rages ⁴  against the Lord.

Discipline your child, for ¹  there is hope, but do not set your heart ²  on causing his death. ³ 

A stone is heavy and sand is weighty, but vexation ¹  by a fool is more burdensome ²  than the two of them.

Surely, he ate in darkness every day of his life, ¹  and he suffered greatly with sickness and anger.

and forgive us our debts, as we ourselves ¹  have forgiven our debtors.
