they did not comply with my advice, they spurned ¹  all my rebuke.

The person ¹  who hears the reproof that leads to life ²  is at home ³  among the wise. ⁴ 

And you will say, “How I hated discipline! My heart spurned reproof!

For the commandments ¹  are like ²  a lamp, ³  instruction is like a light, and rebukes of discipline are like ⁴  the road leading to life, ⁵ 

The one who neglects ¹  discipline ends up in ²  poverty and shame, but the one who accepts reproof is honored. ³ 

A rod and reproof ¹  impart ²  wisdom, but a child who is unrestrained ³  brings shame ⁴  to his mother. ⁵ 

How painful ¹  are honest words! But ²  what does your reproof ³  prove? ⁴ 

because ¹  you neglected ²  all my advice, and did not comply ³  with my rebuke,

The one who loves discipline loves knowledge, ¹  but the one who hates reproof is stupid. ² 

A fool rejects his father’s discipline, but whoever heeds reproof shows good sense. ¹ 

Severe discipline ¹  is for the one who abandons the way; the one who hates reproof ²  will die.

The one who refuses correction despises himself, ¹  but whoever hears ²  reproof acquires understanding. ³ 

Every scripture ¹  is inspired by God ²  and useful for teaching, for reproof, ³  for correction, and for training in righteousness,

My child, do not despise discipline from the Lord, ¹  and do not loathe ²  his rebuke.

If only ¹  you will respond ²  to my rebuke, ³  then ⁴  I will pour ⁵  out my thoughts ⁶  to you and ⁷  I will make ⁸  my words known to you.

When ¹  I hear a reproof that dishonors ²  me, then my understanding ³  prompts me to answer. ⁴ 

The one who heeds instruction ¹  is on the way to ²  life, but the one who rejects ³  rebuke goes astray.

A rebuke makes a greater impression on ¹  a discerning person than a hundred blows on a fool. ² 

The pillars ¹  of the heavens tremble and are amazed at his rebuke. ² 

The one who stiffens his neck ¹  after numerous rebukes ²  will suddenly be destroyed ³  without remedy. ⁴
