I tell you the truth, ¹  you will never get out of there until you have paid the last penny! ² 

Aren’t five sparrows sold for two pennies? ¹  Yet not one of them is forgotten before God.

And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, ¹  worth less than a penny.

I tell you, you will never get out of there until you have paid the very last cent!” ¹ 

Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? ¹  Yet not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. ² 

And after agreeing with the workers for the standard wage, ¹  he sent them into his vineyard.

Show me the coin used for the tax.” So ¹  they brought him a denarius. ² 

He also saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. ¹ 

When those hired about five o’clock came, each received a full day’s pay. ¹ 

“Show me a denarius. ¹  Whose image ²  and inscription are on it?” ³  They said, “Caesar’s.”

Then ¹  I heard something like a voice from among the four living creatures saying, “A quart ²  of wheat will cost a day’s pay ³  and three quarts of barley will cost a day’s pay. But ⁴  do not damage the olive oil and the wine!”

But he saw through their hypocrisy and said ¹  to them, “Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius ²  and let me look at it.”

And when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more. But each one also received the standard wage.

And the landowner ¹  replied to one of them, ²  ‘Friend, I am not treating you unfairly. Didn’t you agree with me to work for the standard wage? ³ 

We did this ¹  as a precaution so that no one should blame us in regard to this generous gift we are administering.

Let the king also be aware that if this city is built and its walls are completed, no more tax, custom, or toll will be paid, and the royal treasury ¹  will suffer loss.

Total darkness waits to receive his treasures; ¹  a fire which has not been kindled ²  will consume him and devour what is left in his tent.

And in anger his lord turned him over to the prison guards to torture him ¹  until he repaid all he owed.

Now ¹  a woman was there who had been suffering from a hemorrhage ²  for twelve years ³  but could not be healed by anyone.

Philip replied, ¹  “Two hundred silver coins worth ²  of bread would not be enough for them, for each one to get a little.”
