Then the Lord commanded ¹  the fish and it disgorged Jonah on dry land.

You are destructive ¹  like water and will not excel, ²  for you got on your father’s bed, ³  then you defiled it – he got on my couch! ⁴ 

While the battle raged throughout the day, the king stood propped up in his chariot opposite the Syrians. He died in the evening; the blood from the wound ran down into the bottom of the chariot.

And the donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with ¹  his sword drawn in his hand, so the donkey turned aside from the road and went into the field. But Balaam beat the donkey, to make her turn back to the road.

“Drink, my lord,” she replied, and quickly lowering ¹  her jug to her hands, she gave him a drink.

They said, “We are happy to give you earrings.” ¹  So they ²  spread out a garment, and each one threw an earring from his plunder onto it.

I brought the leaders of Judah up on top of the wall, and I appointed two large choirs to give thanks. One was to proceed ¹  on the top of the wall southward toward the Dung Gate.

When it was full, they pulled it ashore, sat down, and put the good fish into containers and threw the bad away.

When day came, they did not recognize the land, but they noticed ¹  a bay ²  with a beach, ³  where they decided to run the ship aground if they could.

Look! I am throwing her onto a bed of violent illness, ¹  and those who commit adultery with her into terrible suffering, ²  unless they repent of her deeds.

As for me, the Lord was also angry with me on your account. He said, “You also will not be able to go there.

There, in the presence of the Israelites, Joshua inscribed on the stones a duplicate of the law written by Moses. ¹ 

So ¹  Judas threw the silver coins into the temple and left. Then he went out and hanged himself.

Then ¹  out of the smoke came locusts onto the earth, and they were given power ²  like that of the scorpions of the earth.

The Nile will swarm ¹  with frogs, and they will come up and go into your house, in your bedroom, and on your bed, and into the houses of your servants and your people, and into your ovens and your kneading troughs. ² 

As ¹  Jesus ²  stepped ashore, ³  a certain man from the town ⁴  met him who was possessed by demons. ⁵  For a long time this man ⁶  had worn no clothes and had not lived in a house, but among ⁷  the tombs.

When Jacob finished giving these instructions to his sons, he pulled his feet up onto the bed, breathed his last breath, and went ¹  to his people.

And the priest must take cedar wood, hyssop, ¹  and scarlet wool and throw them into the midst of the fire where the heifer is burning. ² 

He said to her, “Get up, let’s leave!” But there was no response. He put her on the donkey and went home. ¹
