Smoke streams from its nostrils as from a boiling pot over burning ¹  rushes.

Everything on dry land that had the breath of life ¹  in its nostrils died.

Stop trusting in human beings, whose life’s breath is in their nostrils. For why should they be given special consideration?

ר (Resh) Our very life breath – the Lord’s anointed king ¹  – was caught in their traps, ²  of whom we thought, ³  “Under his protection ⁴  we will survive among the nations.”

“I sent against you a plague like one of the Egyptian plagues. ¹  I killed your young men with the sword, along with the horses you had captured. I made the stench from the corpses ²  rise up into your nostrils. Still you did not come back to me.” The Lord is speaking!

Do you make it leap ¹  like a locust? Its proud neighing ²  is terrifying!

I put a ring in your nose, earrings on your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head.

By the breath ¹  of God they perish, ²  and by the blast ³  of his anger they are consumed.

They ¹  open their mouths to devour me ²  like a roaring lion that rips its prey. ³ 

They will teach Jacob your ordinances and Israel your law; they will offer incense as a pleasant odor, and a whole offering on your altar.

They rendered the beauty of his ornaments into pride, ¹  and with it they made their abominable images – their detestable idols. Therefore I will render it filthy to them.
