But the wicked are like a surging sea that is unable to be quiet; its waves toss up mud and sand.

I sink into the deep mire where there is no solid ground; ¹  I am in ²  deep water, and the current overpowers me.

He has flung me into the mud, and I have come to resemble dust and ashes.

I grind them as fine as the dust of the ground; I crush them and stomp on them like clay ¹  in the streets.

Rescue me from the mud! Don’t let me sink! Deliver me ¹  from those who hate me, from the deep water!

When my enemies see this, they will be covered with shame. They say ¹  to me, “Where is the Lord your God?” I will gloat over them. ²  Then they will be trampled down ³  like mud in the streets.

Tyre built herself a fortification and piled up silver like dust and gold like the mud of the streets!

when the dust hardens ¹  into a mass, and the clumps of earth stick together?

All the women who are left in the royal palace of Judah will be led out to the officers of the king of Babylon. They will taunt you saying, ¹  ‘Your trusted friends misled you; they have gotten the best of you. Now that your feet are stuck in the mud, they have turned their backs on you.’ ²

And although you were ¹  dead ²  in your transgressions and sins,

He lifted me out of the watery pit, ¹  out of the slimy mud. ²  He placed my feet on a rock and gave me secure footing. ³ 

Can the papyrus plant grow tall ¹  where there is no marsh? Can reeds flourish ²  without water?
