so that his life loathes food, and his soul rejects appetizing fare. ¹ 

O Lord, do I not hate those who hate you, and despise those who oppose you? ¹ 

The one whose appetite ¹  is satisfied loathes honey, but to the hungry mouth ²  every bitter thing is sweet.

They lost their appetite for all food, ¹  and they drew near the gates of death.

You are the daughter of your mother, who detested her husband and her sons, and you are the sister of your sisters who detested their husbands and their sons. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite.

Then you will remember your evil behavior ¹  and your deeds which were not good; you will loathe yourselves on account of your sins and your abominable deeds.

I take note of the treacherous and despise them, because they do not keep your instructions. ¹

if he retains it for himself and does not let it go, and holds it fast in his mouth, ¹ 

My child, do not despise discipline from the Lord, ¹  and do not loathe ²  his rebuke.

Fish ¹  in the Nile will die, the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will be unable ²  to drink water from the Nile.”’”

I am blameless. ¹  I do not know myself. ²  I despise my life.

And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness, for there is no bread or water, and we ¹  detest this worthless ²  food.”

For forty years I was continually disgusted ¹  with that generation, and I said, ‘These people desire to go astray; ²  they do not obey my commands.’ ³ 

Then I said, “Lord, ¹  have you completely rejected the nation of Judah? Do you despise ²  the city of Zion? Why have you struck us with such force that we are beyond recovery? ³  We hope for peace, but nothing good has come of it. We hope for a time of relief from our troubles, but experience terror. ⁴ 

Therefore I despise myself, ¹  and I repent in dust and ashes!

Then your survivors will remember me among the nations where they are exiled. They will realize ¹  how I was crushed by their unfaithful ²  heart which turned from me and by their eyes which lusted after their idols. They will loathe themselves ³  because of the evil they have done and because of all their abominable practices.

But Israel has rejected what is morally good; so an enemy will pursue him.
