The dice are thrown into the lap, ¹  but their every decision ²  is from the Lord. ³ 

So he brought the men ¹  down to the water. Then the Lord said to Gideon, “Separate those who lap the water as a dog laps from those who kneel to drink.” ² 

Three hundred men lapped; ¹  the rest of the men ²  kneeled to drink water.

So he picked him up and took him to his mother. He sat on her lap ¹  until noon and then died.

The Lord said to Gideon, “With the three hundred men who lapped I will deliver the whole army ¹  and I will hand Midian over to you. ²  The rest of the men should go home.” ³ 

Can a man hold ¹  fire ²  against his chest ³  without ⁴  burning his clothes?

Naomi took the child and placed him on her lap; ¹  she became his caregiver. ² 

She made him go to sleep on her lap ¹  and then called a man in to shave off ²  the seven braids of his hair. ³  She made him vulnerable ⁴  and his strength left him.

Give, and it will be given to you: A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, ¹  will be poured ²  into your lap. For the measure you use will be the measure you receive.” ³ 

Someone went out to the field to gather some herbs and found a wild vine. ¹  He picked some of its fruit, ²  enough to fill up the fold of his robe. He came back, cut it up, and threw the slices ³  into the stew pot, not knowing they were harmful. ⁴ 

Pay back our neighbors in full! ¹  May they be insulted the same way they insulted you, O Lord! ² 

Do not let yourself be quickly provoked, ¹  for anger resides in the lap ²  of fools.

Look, I have decreed: ¹  I will not keep silent, but will pay them back; I will pay them back exactly what they deserve, ² 

You show unfailing love to thousands. ¹  But you also punish children for the sins of their parents. ²  You are the great and powerful God who is known as the Lord who rules over all. ³ 

Now the part that remains of the curtains of the tent – the half curtain that remains will hang over at the back of the tabernacle. ¹ 

how much less man, who is abominable and corrupt, ¹  who drinks in evil like water! ² 

Therefore they have more than enough food to eat, and even suck up the water of the sea. ¹ 

which cannot fill the reaper’s hand, or the lap of the one who gathers the grain!

A gift given ¹  in secret subdues ²  anger, and a bribe given secretly ³  subdues ⁴  strong wrath. ⁵ 

for your sins and your ancestors’ sins,” ¹  says the Lord. “Because they burned incense on the mountains and offended ²  me on the hills, I will punish them in full measure.” ³
