But we must ¹  run aground on some island.”

Every ¹  island fled away ²  and no mountains could be found. ³ 

After we had safely reached shore, ¹  we learned that the island was called Malta. ² 

After this had happened, many of the people on the island who were sick ¹  also came and were healed. ² 

The sky ¹  was split apart ²  like a scroll being rolled up, ³  and every mountain and island was moved from its place.

As we ran under the lee of ¹  a small island called Cauda, ²  we were able with difficulty to get the ship’s boat ³  under control.

Now in the region around that place ¹  were fields belonging to the chief official ²  of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and entertained us hospitably as guests for three days.

When they had crossed over ¹  the whole island as far as Paphos, ²  they found a magician, a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus, ³ 

After three months we put out to sea ¹  in an Alexandrian ship that had wintered at the island and had the “Heavenly Twins” ²  as its figurehead. ³ 

I, John, your brother and the one who shares ¹  with you in the persecution, kingdom, and endurance that ²  are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony about Jesus. ³ 

King Ahasuerus then imposed forced labor on the land and on the coastlands of the sea.

Now the coastlands will tremble on the day of your fall; the coastlands by the sea will be terrified by your passing.’ ¹ 

I will make the trees on the mountains and hills wither up; ¹  I will dry up all their vegetation. I will turn streams into islands, ²  and dry up pools of water. ³ 

Look, the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales. He lifts ¹  the coastlands ²  as if they were dust.

The kings of Tarshish ¹  and the coastlands will offer gifts; the kings of Sheba ²  and Seba ³  will bring tribute.

The Lord reigns! Let the earth be happy! Let the many coastlands rejoice!

The coastlands ¹  see and are afraid; the whole earth ²  trembles; they approach and come.

Let them give the Lord the honor he deserves; ¹  let them praise his deeds in the coastlands. ² 

Not long after this, a hurricane-force ¹  wind called the northeaster ²  blew down from the island. ³ 

Sing to the Lord a brand new song! Praise him ¹  from the horizon of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and everything that lives in it, ²  you coastlands ³  and those who live there!
