Judah also failed to keep the commandments of the Lord their God; they followed Israel’s example. ¹ 

they observed the practices ¹  of the nations whom the Lord had driven out from before Israel, and followed the example of the kings of Israel. ² 

for the law made nothing perfect. On the other hand a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.

He took five of his brothers and introduced them to Pharaoh. ¹ 

On their second visit Joseph made himself known to his brothers again, and Joseph’s family ¹  became known to Pharaoh.

But false prophets arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. ¹  These false teachers ²  will ³  infiltrate your midst ⁴  with destructive heresies, ⁵  even to the point of ⁶  denying the Master who bought them. As a result, they will bring ⁷  swift destruction on themselves.

Then Joseph brought in his father Jacob and presented him ¹  before Pharaoh. Jacob blessed ²  Pharaoh.

And if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah, who is to come.

For ¹  John baptized with water, but you ²  will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Peter ¹  continued talking with him as he went in, and he found many people gathered together. ² 

Now I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a servant ¹  of the church in Cenchrea,

Listen now, Joshua the high priest, both you and your colleagues who are sitting before you, all of you ¹  are a symbol that I am about to introduce my servant, the Branch. ² 

You made known to them your holy Sabbath; you issued commandments, statutes, and law to them through ¹  Moses your servant.

I will bring terrors on you, and you will be no more! Though you are sought after, you will never be found again, declares the sovereign Lord.”

Now they must put away their spiritual prostitution and the pillars of their kings far from me, and then I will live among them forever.

On that day I will punish all who leap over the threshold, ¹  who fill the house of their master ²  with wealth taken by violence and deceit. ³ 

And I remembered the word of the Lord, ¹  as he used to say, ²  ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ ³ 

explaining and demonstrating ¹  that the Christ ²  had to suffer and to rise from the dead, ³  saying, ⁴  “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Christ.” ⁵ 

What I am saying is this: The law that came four hundred thirty years later does not cancel a covenant previously ratified by God, ¹  so as to invalidate the promise.

nor to occupy themselves with myths and interminable genealogies. ¹  Such things promote useless speculations rather than God’s redemptive plan ²  that operates by faith.
