Now ¹  Jesus left that place and came to his hometown, ²  and his disciples followed him.

And he added, ¹  “I tell you the truth, ²  no prophet is acceptable ³  in his hometown.

Then ¹  Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown, and among his relatives, and in his own house.”

Then ¹  he came to his hometown ²  and began to teach the people ³  in their synagogue. ⁴  They ⁵  were astonished and said, “Where did this man get such wisdom and miraculous powers?

Jesus ¹  said to them, “No doubt you will quote to me the proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ ²  and say, ‘What we have heard that you did in Capernaum, ³  do here in your hometown too.’”

And so they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own house.”

Gideon used all this to make ¹  an ephod, ²  which he put in his hometown of Ophrah. All the Israelites ³  prostituted themselves to it by worshiping it ⁴  there. It became a snare to Gideon and his family.

Now Samuel had died, and all Israel had lamented over him and had buried him in Ramah, his hometown. ¹  In the meantime Saul had removed the mediums ²  and magicians ³  from the land.

People say wonderful things about you, ¹  O city of God. (Selah)

Everyone ¹  went to his own town ²  to be registered.

When Ahithophel realized that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and returned to his house in his hometown. After setting his household in order, he hanged himself. So he died and was buried in the grave ¹  of his father.

When the messengers went to Gibeah (where Saul lived) ¹  and informed the people of these matters, all the people wept loudly. ² 

From Ephraim there were 20,800 warriors, who had brought fame to their families. ¹ 

While in Galilee, he moved from Nazareth ¹  to make his home in Capernaum ²  by the sea, ³  in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,

After getting into a boat he crossed to the other side and came to his own town. ¹ 

And he did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.

(For Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.) ¹ 

When the brothers found out about this, they brought him down to Caesarea ¹  and sent him away to Tarsus.

I have also acquired Ruth the Moabite, the wife of Mahlon, as my wife to raise up a descendant who will inherit his property ¹  so the name of the deceased might not disappear ²  from among his relatives and from his village. ³  You are witnesses today.”
