saying, “Prophesy for us, you Christ! ¹  Who hit you?” ² 

They ¹  blindfolded him and asked him repeatedly, ²  “Prophesy! Who hit you?” ³ 

Saul himself was in the thick of the battle; ¹  the archers ²  spotted him and wounded him severely.

Then ¹  some began to spit on him, and to blindfold him, and to strike him with their fists, saying, “Prophesy!” The guards also took him and beat ²  him.

The battle was thick ¹  around Saul; the archers spotted him and wounded him. ² 

¹ “Whoever strikes someone ²  so that he dies ³  must surely be put to death. ⁴ 

“If a man strikes the eye of his male servant or his female servant so that he destroys it, ¹  he will let the servant ²  go free ³  as compensation for the eye.

“If men fight and hit a pregnant woman and her child is born prematurely, ¹  but there is no serious injury, he will surely be punished in accordance with what the woman’s husband demands of him, and he will pay what the court decides. ² 

One who beats an animal to death ¹  must make restitution for it, but ²  one who beats a person to death must be put to death.

When he went out ¹  the next day, ²  there were ³  two Hebrew men fighting. So he said to the one who was in the wrong, ⁴  “Why are you attacking ⁵  your fellow Hebrew?” ⁶ 

“If men fight, and one strikes his neighbor with a stone or with his fist and he does not die, but must remain in bed, ¹ 

He found another man and said, “Wound me!” So the man wounded him severely. ¹ 

or with enmity he strikes him with his hand and he dies, the one who struck him must surely be put to death, for he is a murderer. The avenger of blood must kill the murderer when he meets him.

He took the cloak that had fallen off Elijah, ¹  hit the water with it, and said, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” When he hit the water, it divided and Elisha crossed over.

You will say, ¹  “They have struck me, but I am not harmed! They beat me, but I did not know it! ²  When will I awake? I will look for another drink.” ³ 

“Whoever strikes ¹  his father or his mother must surely be put to death.

“‘If a man beats any person to death, ¹  he must be put to death.

They confronted ¹  me in my day of calamity, but the Lord helped me. ² 

If a scourge brings sudden death, ¹  he mocks ²  at the despair ³  of the innocent. ⁴ 

Does God listen to his cry when distress overtakes him?
