Stop trusting in human beings, whose life’s breath is in their nostrils. For why should they be given special consideration?

But Jacob ¹  said to him, “My lord knows that the children are young, ²  and that I have to look after the sheep and cattle that are nursing their young. ³  If they are driven too hard for even a single day, all the animals will die.

“O Lord, help me understand my mortality and the brevity of life! ¹  Let me realize how quickly my life will pass! ² 

“Man, born of woman, ¹  lives but a few days, ²  and they are full of trouble. ³ 

ants are creatures with little strength, but they prepare ¹  their food in the summer;

Do you fix your eye ¹  on such a one? ²  And do you bring me ³  before you for judgment?

Terrify them, Lord! ¹  Let the nations know they are mere mortals! ²  (Selah)

Have mercy on me, ¹  Lord, for I am frail! Heal me, Lord, for my bones are shaking! ² 

You severely discipline people for their sins; ¹  like a moth you slowly devour their strength. ²  Surely all people are a mere vapor. (Selah)

A voice says, “Cry out!” Another asks, ¹  “What should I cry out?” The first voice responds: ²  “All people are like grass, ³  and all their promises ⁴  are like the flowers in the field.

The Lord says, “I will put a curse on people who trust in mere human beings, who depend on mere flesh and blood for their strength, ²  and whose hearts ³  have turned away from the Lord.

But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that the extraordinary power ¹  belongs to God and does not come from us.

to reveal his Son in ¹  me so that I could preach him ²  among the Gentiles, I did not go to ask advice from ³  any human being, ⁴ 

For the law appoints as high priests men subject to weakness, ¹  but the word of solemn affirmation that came after the law appoints a son made perfect forever.
