Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes ¹  as he stood there before the angel.

Indeed, all the tables are covered with vomit; no place is untouched. ¹ 

The evildoer must continue to do evil, ¹  and the one who is morally filthy ²  must continue to be filthy. The ³  one who is righteous must continue to act righteously, and the one who is holy must continue to be holy.”

There is a generation who are pure in their own eyes and yet are not washed ¹  from their filthiness. ² 

You mix uncleanness with obscene conduct. ¹  I tried to cleanse you, ²  but you are not clean. You will not be cleansed from your uncleanness ³  until I have exhausted my anger on you.

I will scatter you among the nations and disperse you among various countries; I will remove your impurity from you. ¹ 

The angel ¹  spoke up to those standing all around, “Remove his filthy clothes.” Then he said to Joshua, “I have freely forgiven your iniquity and will dress you ²  in fine clothing.”

Neither should there be vulgar speech, foolish talk, or coarse jesting – all of which are out of character – but rather thanksgiving.

and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man in anguish over the debauched lifestyle of lawless ¹  men, ² 

The filthy, ¹  stained city is as good as dead; the city filled with oppressors is finished! ² 

Set the empty pot on the coals, ¹  until it becomes hot and its copper glows, until its uncleanness melts within it and its rot ²  is consumed.

So put away all filth and evil excess and humbly ¹  welcome the message implanted within you, which is able to save your souls.

We are all like one who is unclean, all our so-called righteous acts are like a menstrual rag in your sight. ¹  We all wither like a leaf; our sins carry us away like the wind.

פ (Pe) Zion spread out her hands, but there is no one to comfort her. The Lord has issued a decree against Jacob; his neighbors ¹  have become his enemies. Jerusalem has become like filthy garbage ²  in their midst. ³ 

how much less man, who is abominable and corrupt, ¹  who drinks in evil like water! ² 

“Something horrible and shocking is going on in the land of Judah:

Everyone rejects God; ¹  they are all morally corrupt. ²  None of them does what is right, ³  not even one!

I will sprinkle you with pure water ¹  and you will be clean from all your impurities. I will purify you from all your idols.

But now, put off all such things ¹  as anger, rage, malice, slander, abusive language from your mouth.

which you commanded us through your servants the prophets with these words: ¹  ‘The land that you are entering to possess is a land defiled by the impurities of the local residents! ²  With their abominations they have filled it from one end to the other with their filthiness.
