And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their ¹  condemnation pronounced long ago ²  is not sitting idly by; ³  their ⁴  destruction is not asleep.

Do not exploit ¹  a poor person because he is poor and do not crush the needy in court, ² 

Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoida, who gained fame among the three elite warriors.

“You must not afflict ¹  any widow or orphan.

Then with smooth words he will defile ¹  those who have rejected ²  the covenant. But the people who are loyal to ³  their God will act valiantly. ⁴ 

Make room for us in your hearts; ¹  we have wronged no one, we have ruined no one, ²  we have exploited no one. ³ 

and said, “O Lord, I will not do this! ¹  It is equivalent to the blood of the men who risked their lives by going.” ²  So he refused to drink it. Such were the exploits of the three elite warriors. ³ 

Come! Witness the exploits ¹  of the Lord, who brings devastation to the earth! ² 

Rescue the poor and needy! Deliver them from the power ¹  of the wicked!

O Lord, they crush your people; they oppress the nation that belongs to you. ¹ 

It is trampled underfoot by the feet of the oppressed, by the soles of the poor.”

But the one who lives for pleasure is dead even ¹  while she lives.

Such women are always seeking instruction, ¹  yet never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.

The rest of the events of Jehoshaphat’s reign, including his successes and military exploits, are recorded in the scroll called the Annals of the Kings of Judah. ¹ 

Stop oppressing foreigners who live in your land, children who have lost their fathers, and women who have lost their husbands. ¹  Stop killing innocent people ²  in this land. Stop paying allegiance to ³  other gods. That will only bring about your ruin. ⁴ 

This was the one who exploited ¹  our people ²  and was cruel to our ancestors, ³  forcing them to abandon ⁴  their infants so they would die. ⁵ 

But you have dishonored the poor! ¹  Are not the rich oppressing you and dragging you into the courts?

and said, “God forbid that I should do this! ¹  Should I drink the blood of these men who risked their lives?” ²  Because they risked their lives to bring it to him, he refused to drink it. Such were the exploits of the three elite warriors. ³ 

Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a brave warrior from Kabzeel who performed great exploits. He struck down the two sons of Ariel of Moab; ¹  he also went down and killed a lion inside a cistern on a snowy day.
