(They did not understand that he was telling them about his Father.) ¹ 

Your clothing did not wear out nor did your feet swell all these forty years.

Balak said to Balaam, “Did I not send again and again ¹  to you to summon you? Why did you not come to me? Am I not able to honor you?” ² 

For ¹  I did not obey my teachers ²  and I did not heed ³  my instructors. ⁴ 

Yet I had pity on ¹  them and did not destroy them, so I did not make an end of them in the wilderness.

You fools! ¹  Didn’t the one who made the outside make the inside as well? ² 

Joseph recognized his brothers, but they did not recognize him.

But they did not understand this statement and were afraid to ask him.

But these words seemed like pure nonsense ¹  to them, and they did not believe them.

(For not even his own brothers believed in him.) ¹ 

So Pharaoh summoned Abram and said, “What is this ¹  you have done to me? Why didn’t you tell me that she was your wife?

When they came back, Elisha ¹  was staying in Jericho. He said to them, “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t go’?”

She said, “Did I ask my master for a son? Didn’t I say, ‘Don’t mislead me?’”

And the landowner ¹  replied to one of them, ²  ‘Friend, I am not treating you unfairly. Didn’t you agree with me to work for the standard wage? ³ 

But his master answered, ¹  ‘Evil and lazy slave! So you knew that I harvest where I didn’t sow and gather where I didn’t scatter?

Why then didn’t you put ¹  my money in the bank, ²  so that when I returned I could have collected it with interest?’

Then the officers ¹  returned ²  to the chief priests and Pharisees, ³  who said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him back with you?” ⁴ 

The woman went and said to her husband, “A man sent from God ¹  came to me! He looked like God’s angelic messenger – he was very awesome. ²  I did not ask him where he came from, and he did not tell me his name.
