all the kings of Arabia who ¹  live in the desert;

In the wilderness they had an insatiable craving ¹  for meat; ²  they challenged God ³  in the desert.

They wandered through the wilderness on a desert road; they found no city in which to live.

It is better to live ¹  in a desert land ²  than with a quarrelsome and easily-provoked ³  woman.

“The Lord says, ¹  ‘That is why I will scatter your people ²  like chaff that is blown away by a desert wind. ³ 

How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and insulted him ¹  in the desert!

Let the desert and dry region be happy; ¹  let the wilderness ²  rejoice and bloom like a lily!

Here is a message about the Desert by the Sea: ¹  Like strong winds blowing in the south, ²  one invades from the desert, from a land that is feared.

I am like an owl ¹  in the wilderness; I am like a screech owl ²  among the ruins. ³ 

to cause it to rain on an uninhabited land, ¹  a desert where there are no human beings, ² 

(the world was not worthy of them); they wandered in deserts and mountains and caves and openings in the earth.

Then ¹  all the disciples ²  left him and fled.

The Lord’s shout shakes ¹  the wilderness, the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. ² 

He turned ¹  streams into a desert, springs of water into arid land,

As for his people, ¹  he turned ²  a desert into a pool of water, and a dry land into springs of water.

The wild animals of the desert honor me, the jackals and ostriches, because I put water in the desert and streams in the wilderness, to quench the thirst of my chosen people,

Yet they continued to sin against him, and rebelled against the sovereign One ¹  in the desert.

Like ¹  wild donkeys in the desert they ²  go out to their labor, ³  seeking diligently for food; the wasteland provides ⁴  food for them and for their children.

A voice cries out, “In the wilderness clear a way for the Lord; construct in the desert a road for our God.

“Look, I am about to do something new. Now it begins to happen! ¹  Do you not recognize ²  it? Yes, I will make a road in the desert and paths ³  in the wilderness.
