Hezekiah answered, “It is easy for the shadow to lengthen ten steps, but not for it ¹  to go back ten steps.”

Men are nothing but a mere breath; human beings are unreliable. ¹  When they are weighed in the scales, all of them together are lighter than air. ² 

Look, I will make the shadow go back ten steps on the stairs of Ahaz.” ¹  And then the shadow went back ten steps. ² 

Isaiah replied, “This is your sign from the Lord confirming that the Lord will do what he has said. Do you want the shadow to move ahead ten steps or to go back ten steps?” ¹ 

Isaiah the prophet called out to the Lord, and the Lord ¹  made the shadow go back ten steps on the stairs of Ahaz. ² 

He has brought down the mighty ¹  from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position; ² 

And you did not stop there, O God! You have also spoken about the future of your servant’s family. ¹  You have revealed to me what men long to know, ²  O Lord God.

And we all, with unveiled faces reflecting the glory of the Lord, ¹  are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another, ²  which is from ³  the Lord, who is the Spirit. ⁴ 

As much as ¹  she exalted herself and lived in sensual luxury, ²  to this extent give her torment and grief because she said to herself, ³  ‘I rule as queen and am no widow; I will never experience grief!’

A song of ascents. ²  In my distress I cried out to the Lord and he answered me.

A song of ascents. ²  From the deep water ³  I cry out to you, O Lord.

and elaborate greetings ¹  in the marketplaces, and to have people call them ‘Rabbi.’

Now the believer ¹  of humble means ²  should take pride ³  in his high position. ⁴ 

But rejoice in the degree that you have shared in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed ¹  you may also rejoice and be glad. ² 

He did evil in the sight of ¹  the Lord, but not to the same degree as the Israelite kings who preceded him.

The commands to fear the Lord are right ¹  and endure forever. ²  The judgments given by the Lord are trustworthy and absolutely just. ³
