The mighty lion ¹  perishes ²  for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness ³  are scattered.

It is better for a person to meet ¹  a mother bear being robbed of her cubs, than ²  to encounter ³  a fool in his folly. ⁴ 

“‘When she realized that she waited in vain, her hope was lost. She took another of her cubs ¹  and made him a young lion.

and say: “‘What a lioness was your mother among the lions! She lay among young lions; ¹  she reared her cubs.
