Listen! News is coming even now. ¹  The rumble of a great army is heard approaching ²  from a land in the north. ³  It is coming to turn the towns of Judah into rubble, places where only jackals live.

They came to the house of the synagogue ruler where ¹  he saw noisy confusion and people weeping and wailing loudly. ² 

When he entered he said to them, “Why are you distressed and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep.”

For ¹  we are in danger of being charged with rioting ²  today, since there is no cause we can give to explain ³  this disorderly gathering.” ⁴ 

At daybreak ¹  there was great consternation ²  among the soldiers over what had become of Peter.

It scorns the tumult in the town; it does not hear the shouts of a driver. ¹ 

Why ²  do the nations rebel? ³  Why ⁴  are the countries ⁵  devising ⁶  plots that will fail? ⁷ 

You calm the raging seas ¹  and their roaring waves, as well as the commotion made by the nations. ² 

He asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?”

At ¹  that time ²  a great disturbance ³  took place concerning the Way. ⁴ 

When Eli heard the outcry, ¹  he said, “What is this commotion?” ²  The man quickly came and told Eli.

And when you hear of wars and rebellions, ¹  do not be afraid. ²  For these things must happen first, but the end will not come at once.” ³ 

When Athaliah heard the royal guard ¹  shouting and praising the king, she joined the crowd ²  at the Lord’s temple.

It makes the deep boil like a cauldron and stirs up the sea like a pot of ointment, ¹ 

For look, your enemies are making a commotion; those who hate you are hostile. ¹

The sound of battle comes from the city; the sound comes from the temple! It is the sound of the Lord paying back his enemies.
