When he made ¹  the force of the wind and measured ²  the waters with a gauge.

Kore son of Imnah, a Levite and the guard on the east side, was in charge of the voluntary offerings made to God and disbursed the contributions made to the Lord and the consecrated items.

Their inheritance must be apportioned ¹  by lot among the larger and smaller groups.

“These are the names of the men who are to allocate the land to you as an inheritance: ¹  Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun.

You must take one leader from every ¹  tribe to assist in allocating the land as an inheritance. ² 

These are the ones whom the Lord commanded to divide up the inheritance among the Israelites in the land of Canaan.

seven Israelite tribes had not been assigned their allotted land. ¹ 

thus ¹  I have been made to inherit ²  months of futility, ³  and nights of sorrow ⁴  have been appointed ⁵  to me.

It is one and the same Spirit, distributing as he decides to each person, who produces all these things.

To him ¹  also Abraham apportioned a tithe ²  of everything. ³  His name first means ⁴  king of righteousness, then king of Salem, that is, king of peace.

He drove the nations out from before them; he assigned them their tribal allotments ¹  and allowed the tribes of Israel to settle down. ² 

“To these the land must be divided as an inheritance according to the number of the names.

Will partners ¹  bargain ²  for it? Will they divide it up ³  among the merchants?

Joshua drew lots for them in Shiloh before the Lord and divided the land among the Israelites according to their allotted portions.

“How often ¹  is the lamp of the wicked extinguished? How often does their ²  misfortune come upon them? How often does God apportion pain ³  to them ⁴  in his anger?

This is what the Lord says: “At the time I decide to show my favor, I will respond to you; in the day of deliverance I will help you; I will protect you ¹  and make you a covenant mediator for people, ²  to rebuild ³  the land ⁴  and to reassign the desolate property.

The land must be divided by lot; and they will inherit in accordance with the names of their ancestral tribes.

Now, divide up this land ¹  among the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.”

These are the land assignments made by Moses ¹  on the plains of Moab east of the Jordan River opposite Jericho. ² 

The Israelites followed the Lord’s instructions to Moses and divided up the land. ¹
