to the latter an odor ¹  from death to death, but to the former a fragrance from life to life. And who is adequate for these things? ² 

Not that we are adequate ¹  in ourselves to consider anything as if it were coming from ourselves, but our adequacy ²  is from God,

who made us adequate ¹  to be servants of a new covenant ²  not based on the letter but on the Spirit, for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

For how can we thank God enough for you, ¹  for all the joy we feel ²  because of you before our God?

Certainly a man cannot rescue his brother; ¹  he cannot pay God an adequate ransom price ² 

Who can adequately recount the Lord’s mighty acts, or relate all his praiseworthy deeds? ¹ 

that the person dedicated to God ¹  may be capable ²  and equipped for every good work.

Not even Lebanon could supply enough firewood for a sacrifice; ¹  its wild animals would not provide enough burnt offerings. ²
