Scatter abroad ¹  the abundance ²  of your anger. Look at every proud man ³  and bring him low;

Men will be humiliated, they will be brought low; the proud will be brought low. ¹ 

“Therefore, I have caused you to be ignored and belittled before all people to the extent to which you are not following after me and are showing partiality in your ¹  instruction.”

this is what the sovereign Lord says: Tear off the turban, ¹  take off the crown! Things must change! ²  Exalt the lowly, bring down the proud! ³ 

I have experienced times of need and times of abundance. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of contentment, ¹  whether I go satisfied or hungry, have plenty or nothing.

I am willing to shame and humiliate myself even more than this! ¹  But with the slave girls whom you mentioned let me be distinguished!”

Let no one who delights in humility and the worship of angels pass judgment on you. That person goes on at great lengths ¹  about what he has supposedly seen, but he is puffed up with empty notions by his fleshly mind. ² 

You deliver oppressed ¹  people, but you watch the proud and bring them down. ² 

Look at every proud man and abase him; crush the wicked on the spot! ¹ 

For you deliver oppressed ¹  people, but you bring down those who have a proud look. ² 

But ¹  you rejected and embarrassed us! You did not go into battle with our armies. ² 

Men bow down to them in homage, they lie flat on the ground in worship. ¹  Don’t spare them! ² 

Proud men will be humiliated, arrogant men will be brought low; ¹  the Lord alone will be exalted ²  in that day.

Even if the forest is destroyed ¹  and the city is annihilated, ² 

And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but ¹  the one who humbles ²  himself will be exalted.”

At the time of the evening offering I got up from my self-abasement, ¹  with my tunic and robe torn, and then dropped to my knees and spread my hands to the Lord my God.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, for all his deeds are right and his ways are just. He is able to bring down those who live ¹  in pride.

“‘On the tenth day of this seventh month you are to have a holy assembly. You must humble yourselves; ¹  you must not do any work on it.

Proud men will be brought low, arrogant men will be humiliated; ¹  the Lord alone will be exalted ²  in that day.
