“‘Observe – everyone who quotes proverbs will quote this proverb about you: “Like mother, like daughter.”

The Proverbs ¹  of ²  Solomon ³  son of David, ⁴  king of Israel: ⁵ 

These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of King Hezekiah of Judah copied: ¹ 

To discern ¹  the meaning of ²  a proverb and a parable, ³  the sayings of the wise ⁴  and their ⁵  riddles. ⁶ 

Your maxims ¹  are proverbs of ashes; ²  your defenses ³  are defenses of clay. ⁴ 

He composed ¹  3,000 proverbs and 1,005 songs.

You will become an occasion of horror, a proverb, and an object of ridicule to all the peoples to whom the Lord will drive you.

It’s like the old proverb says: ‘From evil people evil proceeds.’ But my hand will not be against you.

The Proverbs of Solomon: A wise child ²  makes a father rejoice, ³  but a foolish child ⁴  is a grief to his mother. ⁵ 

Like a thorn ¹  that goes into the hand of a drunkard, so is a proverb in the mouth of a fool. ² 

“As surely as I live, declares the sovereign Lord, ¹  you will not quote this proverb in Israel anymore!

Therefore tell them, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: I hereby end this proverb; they will not recite it in Israel any longer.’ But say to them, ‘The days are at hand when every vision will be fulfilled. ¹ 

Like legs that hang limp ¹  from the lame, so ²  is a proverb ³  in the mouth of fools.

I will learn a song that imparts wisdom; I will then sing my insightful song to the accompaniment of a harp. ¹ 

Not only was the Teacher wise, ¹  but he also taught knowledge to the people; he carefully evaluated ²  and arranged ³  many proverbs.

“Son of man, what is this proverb you have in the land of Israel, ‘The days pass slowly, and every vision fails’?

They are illustrations of this true proverb: ¹  “A dog returns to its own vomit,” ²  and “A sow, after washing herself, ³  wallows in the mire.” ⁴

Jesus ¹  said to them, “No doubt you will quote to me the proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ ²  and say, ‘What we have heard that you did in Capernaum, ³  do here in your hometown too.’”

A man who was from there replied, “And who is their father?” Therefore this became a proverb: “Is even Saul among the prophets?”
