Bathsheba replied, “That’s fine, ¹  I’ll speak to the king on your behalf.”

Bathsheba bowed down on the floor before ¹  the king. The king said, “What do you want?”

So David sent someone to inquire about the woman. The messenger ¹  said, “Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”

Haggith’s son Adonijah visited Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother. She asked, “Do you come in peace?” He answered, “Yes.” ¹ 

So David comforted his wife Bathsheba. He went to her and had marital relations with her. ¹  She gave birth to a son, and David ²  named him Solomon. Now the Lord loved the child ³ 

So Bathsheba visited the king in his private quarters. ¹  (The king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.)

King David responded, ¹  “Summon Bathsheba!” ²  She came and stood before the king. ³ 

Bathsheba bowed down to the king with her face to the floor ¹  and said, “May my master, King David, live forever!”

Nathan said to Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother, “Has it been reported to you ¹  that Haggith’s son Adonijah has become king behind our master David’s back? ² 

So Bathsheba visited King Solomon to speak to him on Adonijah’s behalf. The king got up to greet ¹  her, bowed to her, and then sat on his throne. He ordered a throne to be brought for the king’s mother, ²  and she sat at his right hand.

For the music director; a psalm of David, written when Nathan the prophet confronted him after David’s affair with Bathsheba. ²  Have mercy on me, O God, because of ³  your loyal love! Because of ⁴  your great compassion, wipe away my rebellious acts! ⁵ 

These were the sons born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, ¹  Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon – the mother of these four was Bathsheba ²  the daughter of Ammiel. ³ 

Uriah the Hittite, Zabad son of Achli,

and Jesse the father of David the king. David was the father of Solomon (by the wife of Uriah ¹ ),

Then Nathan went to his home. The Lord struck the child that Uriah’s wife had borne to David, and the child became very ill. ¹ 

The woman conceived and then sent word to David saying, “I’m pregnant.”

When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband Uriah was dead, she mourned for him. ¹ 

When I was a son to my father, ¹  a tender only child ²  before my mother,

Come out, O maidens of Zion, and gaze upon King Solomon! He is wearing the crown with which his mother crowned him on his wedding day, on the most joyous day of his life! ¹
